SUMMARY:  The CAM Programmer will be responsible for interpreting blueprints and/or drawings and/or computer-generated part models to generate leading edge CAM programs for use within the manufacturing department. (rough milling, rough turning, finish milling, finish turning, EDM, plate line)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings to plan CNC programs, calculate correct dimensions, machine speeds, and feed rates.
  • Build CNC machining programs for horizontal, vertical milling machines using Cam program. 
  • Determine the sequence of machine operations, select the proper cutting tools, determine reference points, machine cutting paths, hole locations, compute angular and linear dimensions, radii, and curvatures required to machine work pieces into the desired shapes.
  • Write instruction sheets for the machine's operator in order to guide proper setup.
  • Work with mfg. team to ensure work throughput is improved and maximize machine tool life is achieved 
  • Demonstrated ability to view and understand 3D renderings of injection molds, tolerances, and specifications along with the ability to develop 3-D modeling while importing mold and part data would be an asset.
  • Interaction with management, engineering personnel, tool room personnel and shop floor employees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Post-Secondary education – Completion of College or University in a technically oriented program.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • 5+ years of CAM programming experience, within a precision metal machining environment
  • Experience in the injection mold making industry is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills – CAM, CAD, MS Office experience required.
  • NX programming is considered an asset. 
  • Proven knowledge of developing efficient machining programs for 3-axis and 5-axis precision machinery.
  • Strong computer skills with advanced level experience in CAM programming.
